The River
White water running wild
In a restless rushing fury
To see souls reconciled
It reaches wide across forever
It's dangerous and deep
And while some venture
to the shoreline
Some even dare to leap
And the river rages
The river runs
All through the ages
Long after I'm gone
There's a truth I'm finding
I can't ignore
Whether I dive in or stand
on the shore
The river keeps rushing on
All of those who ride the rapids
Have a message they must tell
There's a joy in being lost
in something
That's bigger than yourself
And though the current
takes you places
Where you learn to lose control
And if you think you're going under
He'll never let you go
Never let you go
Toward some quiet
sea somewhere
There's nothing like the
journey there

Prayer points for the week
Yemen
Pray for a tentmaker in a remote area with no more than a handful of known believers. Pray for good contacts with neighbours and for creativity to reach them with the gospel.
Lebanon
Pray for the situation in Lebanon, which is on the edge of civil war again. Many commentators are expecting a civil war again which will bring the country into deeper problems.
Turkmenistan
Although the situation in the cty is often despairing and discouraging, the church continues to grow. Pray for encouragement for the believers and more freedom for them to be able to worship together and share the Gospel with their countrymen.
Sudan
Pray for children and youth workers in an oil rich area were there is much political tension. The church there is very weak. Ask God to give this church joy to be more effective with youth and children.
Timor Leste
Pray that as the nation goes to the polls to select a new leader, that God's will will be sovereign. Thank God for the opportunities He has given the church through the current leader and pray that missionaries who are currently in Timor Leste will continue to perservere in their ministry.

Scripture memory Verse #4
Have a good week at work or in school.
But prove yourselves doers of the word, and not merely hearers who delude themselves.

Anyway, it is still a daily emotional struggle. On good days, I wonder what she is doing now.. (is she helping God to take care of the flowers in Eden, as she always did in the market??) On bad days, I wake up crying because of a dream I have of her.
It really pains my heart to see my father, brother, aunties, uncles and cousins struggling to come to terms with this too, some of them putting up fronts to cover up for their sadness. We have more of such family gatherings now, since this incident came so suddenly, and so many of us have been awakened not to take one another for granted.
My relatives have been gathering around and giving me pep talks and advice:
4th uncle: "ah ching you must eat more fruits ok, anything pls call me! Don't be paiseh ok! now your mummy not around, must be more independent.."
1st auntie: it's really easy to cook soup, just dump all the ingredients into the pot, come back from work, boil then can drink already!"
adventurous cousin: "when u free, bring u and your brother go sailing ok."
and so on etc
In a sense, I've lost my mom but i've suddenly regained an extended family.. I know I've got to give thanks for that also. It was really great that they got to hear about the message during the wake.. for now I am praying for each and everyone of them that they will know God.. before it is too late..
Yep.. I will miss my mom forever... Miss her naggings mostly (ha!). and yeah, I cannot wait for that day when we will all be reunited in the Lord again.

Hi Jayne.
here are some info on how to get to Tanjong Beach.
I think it would be better if we can meet at the beach directly because i think it'll be quite crowded for us to go together as a big group all the way from vivo on a saturday afternoon.
There are 6 ways to get there.
1. Take bus from the harbourfront interchange. Then change to Yellow Line or Red Line Bus.
2. Take the sentosa express train from Vivo city to the beach station. And then change to the beach tram that goes to Tanjong Beach.
3. Drive in $2 (car) + $2 (admission per pax) and park directly at Tanjong Beach Car Park.
4. Walk in and find a bus that goes to Tanjong Beach.. (not recommended unless they really want to save $1)
5. Take taxi straight to tanjong beach. May be quite worth if there are 4 pple.
6. Cable Car for those who want a full touristy journey there.
Charges: $2 (admission) + $1 (transport)
Would suggest that those cells that have many pple driving should consider car pooling to save $$ on transport =)
Blessings,
Elena

The Lord is Our Banner
Hi everyone, just wanted to let you know about the new cell format that we’ll be having for 2007, and how everyone will be involved, so here goes:
1. New Duty Roster
There will be a new duty roster that will be based on the following components: Welcome, Worship, Word and Blogging
The person who is doing the Welcome will be able to choose either to do sharing, or to play a game for the week that he/she is in-charge of. I would recommend alternate weeks of sharing and games, so as to provide a bit more variety. Furthermore, the person who is in-charge of welcome will also be in-charge of prayer. The prayer pointers have to be clear and precise, and please ensure that you have spent the week seeking the Lord.
The blogging duties will be on a weekly basis, where the person on duty will have to blog one lesson (or multiples if you want) that God has taught you for the week. This is to ensure that we will all get to see how God is moving in each individual’s life.
For the people down for cell duty on that week, you will be meeting 15mins before the cell meeting to gather for a time of prayer, so as to give God the proper respect and to prepare your hearts. Please remember that we are all priests before the Lord, and that we are preparing and bringing the people into the Holy of Holies, so lets accord God the proper respect.
2. Bible Study
In an endeavour not to speed through the Bible Study, and to try to internalize the lessons learnt for our lives, each chapter will be covered over two weeks. The first part of the BS will be covered in the 1st week of the month, followed by the 2nd week of sharing what has really impacted you from the study, and how you have applied it to your life. After that we will then complete the Bible Study in the 3rd week, and it will then be followed by another sharing session in the 4th week (where the sharing will be done in a cell outing)
This is to ensure that we take our time to apply the things that we have learned into our lives. There is no point in doing a “hit and run” study, if the BS does not bring about life change, and we are not becoming more like Jesus.
3. Cell Format
On every 2nd and 4th week of the month, the cell will be engaged in a time of sharing what God has taught us from the BS, as well as taking the time to pray for one another, and to keep one another accountable for how we are going to apply the lessons into our lives.
Furthermore, on every 4th week of the month, we will be having a cell outing, and this is an example of what will take place: For example, for the month of Feb, we will be having an all guys and all girls cell outing, where we will share with one another our lives and what God has been teaching us, and then in March, we will have a combined cell outing altogether on the 4th week. This will depend on whether or not you all will be working, so really pray that God will enable you to meet on that week. This is to enable us to share about our lives and to really keep each other in prayer.
4. Accountability
Remember what we shared about what we wanted each other to keep us accountable to? Well, we are going to share our accountability on week 2 and 4 of every month, during our times of sharing, as well as during our outings. This is to ensure that we are on track, and that we also learn community living by supporting one another in prayer.
5. Thanksgiving Jar
This is just an idea to really learn to thank God in all circumstances. I will be bringing a jar to cell every week, and everybody will get a chance to thank God for one /more things that God has blessed them for that week (whether it is a small blessing or a big blessing). We will then take it out at the end of the year and really see how God has really blessed us.
This is to enable us to to see the tangible Hand of God moving in the midst of our lives.
So, its really going to be an exciting year ahead, and lets really give our utmost for His Highest, and pray for spiritual breakthroughs in our lives, and in the lives of the people that we come into contact with on a weekly basis.
Shalom,
JONATHAN YOONG

PRAY!!!
What does P-R-A-Y means?
P =Practice
R = Relational
A = Asking God
Y = Yielding To God
We need to practice pray often to b able to use it in good measure. The more we practice the better we get.
Christian walk is not a religion as what others sees it but rather a RELATIONSHIP. If you are in a relationship with someone, you would definately wanna talk to the person you love, and spend a lot of time with the person right? So prayer is about communicating with God. It helps to build up your relationship with Him.
In pray, we often ask of Him. Like Bishop John Tan put it. We often fall in the common prayer of G-M-T (ie Give Me This, Give Me That)
But prayer, if often more than just asking God for our needs and wants. Its about asking for the bigger picture in life and for the salvation of the people around us that we love.
Lastly, in prayer we often humble ourselves before the Lord, letting Him take control of the situation rather than we taking control of things.
So a challenge for all, do PRAY. I know i haven't done so for a long time. But an encouragement, just the past week things are beginning to look better for once since Dec'06. The number of prayers I actually made was perhaps more than what i actually did in the past 4 years.(including grace before meals) I am guilty of ignoring Him many times. Perhaps its time to really get serious with Him. One great friend once told me that why people can move on so easily in life. Its because they have found substitues to fill the void and emptiness in them. But he challenged me to let God fill that void in me. Its not easy, mere words are really hard to swallow. But once I actually decided to make that choice, trust me there's lotsa distractions. Handling such distractions are not easy. But through prayer and reading of His Word and devoting to worshipping Him, has brought a lot of joy and peace of mind. Knowing that whatever happens in the future is in His control, not yours. Like a lot of people, i mean really a lot of people told me this. If its yours is yours. So with God in us, there is always an assurance that He is there. He will have a plan to prosper us not harm us. Of course, the walk will never be an easy one. So let me be an encouragement to anyone that I was down but I am moving on not alone but focused on Him. I really thank that great friend for his little words of wisdom, and to those around me who have to bear my constant whinning. (haha you know who you are) Thanks.

In the midst of my lowest point
Its so true that everytime you decide to do your own way and take things in your own hand, somehow everything just falls apart. Only then will we realised where can we turn to except to God. He will always be there. Sometimes words are easier said. When we are in a broken state, when all confindence and everything we hold dear to is gone. Everything seems so bleak and uncertain. We can only holdfast to the His Love and just come to Him in humility. Trusting Him to carry us through once again.
REFUGE
I sing a love song to you Lord
Everyday every night
Tell of Your goodness and mercy
Tell the world how You rescued me
Picked me up from sin and shame
Your breath gives me new life
Where can I go from Your Presence
Under Your wings I take refuge
Your Spirit lives within my heart
I know We'll never be apart
Everyday I draw closer to You Lord
I long to see Your face
And hide in Your embrace
All my life
Dwelling in Your Holy Place
My heart O Lord You've changed
I'll never be the same
God will make everything beautiful in its time.(Ecclesiastes 3:11)

The Lord is Our Banner
Hi people,
here are the prayer requests of the various people that shared at cell yesterday (6/1/2007). For Hwee Cheng and Eugene, please blog your prayer requests, so that we can keep each other in prayer during this year. Lets really committ ourselves to prayer this year, and believe that God is going to move in a big way in our lives and the lives of our family, loved ones, and family in this year.
Well here goes:
Ruijie:
1. To learn to commit studies to God and learn to trust in Him (to work hard, but not to allow work to take the rightful place of God). Honour God 1st.
2. Trust in God in all things (Seek first the Kingdom of God and all these things shall be added unto you)
Ideas for Cell: For the cell to have Scripture Memory Verse every week.
Ling Ling:
1. To pray for salvation for family in 2007.
2. To spend more time in devotion and prayer with God.
Ideas for Cell: Time to do more witnessing for friends. To be used as an instrument by God to evangelise.
Sarah:
To pray that she would stop procrastinating and to act on what God has impressed on her life.
Amy:
1. Spend more time in devotion with God (then would naturally move towards sharing more with parents and friends stc when the relationship with God is right).
2. To set her priorities right in the year 2007.
3. That she'll be able to serve in Tanglin Halt. Please pray that she'll be able to leave early on Wednesday to reach Tanglin Halt on time.
Alvin:
1. To be able to finish reading the Biblein a year based on the timetable given by Canon.
2. Let go and Let God take control
3. Pray for God's calling in his life
4. Pray for him serving in the adult's ministry.
Jonathan:
1. Continue to pray for the salvation of parents (Pray that dad will be able to go for Canon's cell every fortnight and that mum will be able to come down for church every month)
2. To be the best that he can be at work for the Lord
3. To be "counter-culture" and not follow the world. To be an overcomer, rather than to be dictated by the ways of the world. To al seek God for God's calling in his life.
4. Opportunity to be a sower or a reaper in family and friend's life.
5. God will fill his heart first and foremost. No thing or person will take the number one place in his heart.
6. Go deeper in the bible in 2007, and that he would have more opportunities to do bible teaching.
Edmund:
1. To be more focused on prayer-evangelism. To be more consistent in prayer for family and friends.
2. To read the Bible in the whole year. To read a minimum of 4 pages per day, and to memorize a minimum of 2 verses per week.
3. To work hard at his job, but not to get too engrossed or addicted in the stock market.
Well, that's about it. Please remember to pray and reflect about more specific goals that you want God to work in for tyhis year, and we will come back to share again on 3 Feb 2007. In the meantime, let's continue pressing on towards being more Christlike, and to share his Good News with the world in whatever ways we can.
Shalom,
JONATHAN YOONG

The Lord is Our Banner
Hi people,
Really see that the blog hasn't been used in a looooooooooong time. Really hope to see more interesting posts other than our BBQ order form.
WELL, here's my overdue blog item. Hope it makes sense:
Read something in Tozer’s “The Knowledge of God” that really intrigued me – it said “What comes to our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us.”
It really says a lot about our focus on God. It really speaks volumes that when we think about God, what do we really see God as? And in turn, what does that say about our lives as His disciples? Are there areas and viewpoints in our lives that need to be corrected? Or is our viewpoint about God spot on?
According to Tozer, the real remedy to the malady of the spiritual lethargy of our lives is to really return to God Himself. In his book “The Pursuit of God”, he notes that “The Bible is not an end in itself, but a means to bring men to an intimate and satisfying knowledge of God, that they may enter into Him, that they may delight in His presence, may taste and know the inner sweetness of the very God Himself in the core and centre of their hearts”. Tozer argues that superficial remedies for our lack of spiritual life are useless; what we need is to return to God, and to learn to reverence, honour and love Him alone.
