You must be joking! michael green

read a book on the above title, where the author examines 10 popular excuses for avoiding Jesus Christ. these are the 10:

1. 'I'm not the religious sort'
2. You can't believe in GOd these days'
3. 'All religions lead to God'
4. Jesus was just a good man'
5. 'It dosen't matter what you beleive as long as you are sincere'
6. 'I do my best. No one can do more'
7. 'Nothing can alter the past'
9. 'When you're dead, you're dead!'
10. 'You can't change human nature'

Maybe we, as a cell, can examine each of these popular excuses.

the author was also examining this qn:
'If you are right about Jesus, are other religions all wrong?'
maybe u all can post ur view, if any?
then i will post the author's view nt week

Hey, thought i would leave some of my thoughts i had in previous years when i had let my mind wonder and come up with anything i could come up with. However, I wun be answering directly the discussion question.

I came up with the idea that there was one god and most religions were just various ways of reaching that one God. This state of affairs come about due to this god's understanding of human nature and human's tendency towards division.

In essence, this god created different religions with the aim of catering to everyone out there. And as most religions preach about peace and love and good deeds, it is irrelevent to consider violence between religious that do not have religious basis.

Erm, yeah, in brief that's wat i had come up with in the past. I do not agree with my views, neither do i disagree with it...

hmm.. so will someone tell me wat the author thinks? ha!

Here are extracts of wat the author wrote, in response to the question.

“By no means. The God who made the world, the God who revealed himself in Christ, has not left himself without witness in the world. Every good thought, every gleam of light, every word of truth to be found in any religion, and in atheistic philosophies like Marxism as well, is part of God’s self-disclosure. All truth is God’s truth, and has its focus in the one who became incarnate”

“As you look into other faiths you will find an enormous amount that is true and worthy, that is moral and good, as well as much that is not. But you will not find anything that is good and true which cannot be found in Christ. You will not hear from them about a God who cares for you enough to die for you, to rise from the grave as a pledge of your future"

And here is view...Other religions are definitely wrong (how can you have buddha the god and christ the god all in 1...it seems like a lame attempt to play safe)..so, it is either u r right or u r wrong when it comes to deciding such stuffs.and it is so uncertain coz we cannot 100% verify it until the truth is finally right at our very own eyes...

so, i just got to stick with my gut that Christ is right, and all the other religion is wrong as wat christ has said...and i think, so far, acc to wat happen in my life and wat i see and feel, i think there is a quite high probability that i m right

But, then again, i agree that whatever good in other religion is true..if buddhists are helping to feed the poor, how can they be wrong..very hard to argue agst tt..so i wont..and i will just accept the author's view..taking the easy way out
